This is like saying America supports Putin. A more accurate headline would be Bibi and the far right want to kill everyone in Gaza.

Good to hear from you. I do, however, think that any analysis of the accuracy of the heading needs to draw not just on what Netanyahu and the far-right want, but on what sentiment is throughout Israel, and on that basis there doesn't seem to be any indication that the majority of Israelis are concerned by the extent of their government's killing of Palestinian civilians in significant numbers.

In a poll of 502 Israeli citizens conducted by Tel Aviv University in January 2024, for example, 51% believed the IDF was using an appropriate amount of force in Gaza, and 43% believed it was not using enough force, and in an Israel Democracy Institute survey of 510 Israeli citizens in February 2024, 68% of respondents supported preventing all international aid from entering Gaza.

It's true that, when the ceasefire took effect in January this year, 73% of Israelis supported it, but public opinion is generally focused solely on the safe return of the hostages, and not on any intrinsic concern for Palestinians' lives.

Point taken, but right after Oct 7 attack, polls show that majority of Palestinians thought that the attack was the correct decision. At that point we could’ve said that Palestinians supported killing Israeli civilians. Obviously that support has dropped a lot since then.

Also Israelis are not seeing the atrocity in their media so they think they are doing this for self preservation. Nuances are annoying and don’t make good political slogans unfortunately. We’ve antagonized Jewish people to the point that a many solid blue Jewish voters voted for Trump. I think in the big picture that hurt the cause for establishing Palestinian state

Thanks again for your thoughts, but I can't separate Oct. 7 from the oppression of the Palestinians over the previous 75 years, beginning with the horrific slaughter of 15,000 Palestinians and the exile of 750,000 others in the Nakba of 1948.

In the 15 years before Oct. 7, around 6,000 Palestinians were killed by Israel, compared to around 300 Israelis, mostly in connection with the wave after wave of military attacks that Israel boasted of as being acts of "mowing the lawn", as if the Palestinians, on their own occupied territory, were nothing more than weeds. As a result, it's no surprise to me that people in Gaza reacted positively to a counter-blow against Israel.

As for Israel, ignorance is no excuse. The livestreamed genocide is all over social media; it's not as though what's being done in their name is being hidden.

As for US politics, I can't see how Biden's position could have driven Jewish voters to Trump, as he couldn't have done more to support and enable Israel's genocide in Gaza.
